Service

I pledge allegiance to the flag of The United States of American and to the republic to which it stands. One Nation, under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.

DSC_0666

That’s exactly what Memorial Day is all about. Thanking God for the men and women who bravely serve our country with honor so that we can experience the privilege of liberty and justice.

Let us not get wrapped up in all the BBQs, camping, and three day weekend. Let us remember these brave and selfless people who have served us so well.

DSC_0673

Thank a soldier, hug a military wife, and pray for their families.

How do you honor our Military men and women?

Happy Memorial Day.

I Heart Faces: Yellow

Just a few weeks ago I wrote about going over to hang out with hubby at work. You can see more photos of that visit here. If it weren’t for the fact that Little Fire Chief was wearing the brightest yellow shirt you have ever seen on that day, I would not have an entry for this week’s challenge over at I Heart Faces.  So here it is, my mellow yellow photo:

I Heart Faces: Fix it Friday

Fix-it_lg I’m participating in I Heart Faces’ Fix-it Friday today. This photo was submitted by a participant of their many photo challenges.  She said that she had been doing a 365 challenge and this was one taken as all of the natural light went away for the day. This is the before:

I lightened it up a bit, Pioneer Woman’s Cooler Action, cropped it a bit, and changed it to black and white in Photoshop Elements 8. Here’s what it came out looking like when I was all done:

On a personal and exciting note, I am going to be upgrading from a Nikon D40 to a Nikon D90 soon. It’s long overdue and I am also shooting my very first wedding in October. While I’m nervous, I think I have a lot of time to get tips and tricks from all of you wonderful photographers in the I Heart Faces Network. That’s my exciting news for the day. I think we might even have the D90 before Peanut arrives.  Oh yeah and I got a new Blackberry that has a camera on it, my old one didn’t. I’m happy that I finally have a camera that will go everywhere with me. Even if it is just a poor quality one.

Hope you all are having a wonderful week.

You Capture: DOF

Depth of Field if you weren’t quite sure what DOF stood for.  I had the pleasure of capturing some faces over the last week

Christian

along with some cute feet.

levifoot

Doesn’t it just scream “Tickle Tickle”?

botanical

I really don’t know what kind of botanical this is, but love the color. It almost reminds me of an Indian Paint Brush, but I don’t think that’s it.

roses1

Roses, what woman seriously doesn’t like roses?

Well that’s all for this week. Please head over to I should be folding laundry and show us what you captured this week.

I Heart Faces: Flowers

Having boys, I don’t have many opportunities to take photos of faces and flowers. However, in April my sister-in-law got married.  I have some photos of her holding her flowers.  I had a really hard time deciding which one I liked the best but kept coming back to the same photo.  I just can’t help but love the umbrella as well as the flowers in this shot.

DSC_0136

She made the most beautiful bride didn’t she?  She took everyone’s breath away, and was amazingly fun to photograph. Now please, by all means, head over to I heart faces to see what else is in bloom this week.

GMYBS: Natural Light

Give me your best shot at Better in Bulk

Oh how I love natural light! So glad that the Grammie Diaries is co-hosting Give Me Your Best Shot this week and has challenged us to use natural light. Why?  Well see for yourself!

christian3

We played and took photos out at Point Cabrillo Light Station yesterday.  It was a ton of fun.  Little Munchkins from our church were all out there having a good time and preparing photos for their father’s for Father’s Day.

Levi

You couldn’t get a photo like this with flash. Just look at those eyes!  Learning to shoot in natural light can be a challenge, but once you get the hang of it, you won’t want to shoot in anything else.

LeviandElias

Have you been shooting in natural light this week?  Head over to Better in Bulk and share your beautiful photos with us all!

You Capture: Yellow

 Photobucket

Meet Jack. He’s our Yellow Lab.

Jack2

He’s a really good dog.

Jack

Not many dogs would tolerate being teased by a two year old very well, but Jack doesn’t mind.

He’s just happy to be here.

Joy

Boys are a joy!

christian2

Especially when allowed to frolic in the tall grass.

christian3

Also while learning to be a big boy and drink out of a juice pouch all by themselves.

Christian

I think Boys are a Joy most all of the time. Don’t you?

chelsisig

I love it here

sunset

Evenings like this remind me how much I love my hometown.  I mean, where else can you see sunsets such as these over beautiful coastlines?   It really doesn’t get much better!

Happy Wednesday.

You Capture: Spring AGAIN

Photobucket

Tuesday was spent burning brush up at a family friend’s ranch. It was sunny and warm.

The flames were amazing.

fire

I’m not a pyromaniac by any means, but boy did I have fun taking photos of flames.

While hubby worked hard burning brush,

man

Mr. Moo had other plans.

beetle3

Dirty face and all, he went out hunting for bugs.

beetle2

Beetles to be exact.

I doesn’t get more springy than this. Head over to I should be folding laundry to participate in You Capture. The theme this week is SPRING.
