Happy Friday. This is my before shot.
Nikon D40x 55-200 mm Auto focus f4.5
This photo came out a little darker than I would have liked. I also am unsure if I should crop it. Here’s what I came up with. Still not excited about how it looks though. :0) any feedback would be wonderful.

You're right on with the crop idea. Subjects tend to look a little bit better when closer to a third than right in the center. I see you also did auto focus. In your camera, you can manually choose a focal point. Put that red dot right in your subject's eye and the focus will usually be right on!
